MARE NOSTRUM VMS is a working group constituted by ARTS, SERTI AND CORVETTE representatives from public administrations, toll motorway and consultancy companies in three countries: Italy, France and Spain. The MARE NOSTRUM VMS partners work together with the aim of establishing common VMS display practices along a Long Distance Corridor that goes from Seville (Spain) to Trieste (Italy). The idea, primarily focused on the European road users, is that any driver travelling along this Long Distance Corridor should find that very similar VMS displays regulate, warn or inform about very similar road events. Two main parameters sustain this search for common practice: first, the whole group deals with very similar VMS panels, consisting at least on one pictogram on the left side plus three text lines with at least 10-12 characters per line. Second, the group seeks common pictograms and text formulas, both international in nature, as well as common rules for structuring the information on the panel, always having in mind specific and realistic road events.
