Abstract:

This would look at how emerging technologies which are emerging through research and development in the UK, can combine and contribute to more effective traffic management through the recently deployed Regional Control Centres (RCC) in the future. This would examine the use of traffic modelling in predicting the onset of congestion and how it proposes traffic management plans to mitigate the impact and journey time delay (This is effectively the Network Advisory Sub-System, NASS). This would touch on other areas of interest, including incident detection (using new CCTV techniques e.g. low-cost CCTV) and alternative above ground detectors (e.g. ground area RADAR), in the detection and notification of incidents. This can then lead into the Dynamic Plan Generation (see below), and how major incidents can be circumvented, thus reducing the delay time to approaching traffic.
